Why Spanish ace chose Chelsea

Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has admitted that he joined the London outfit in order to become the best player in his position.

The Spanish left-back has been shining since his 2016 move from Fiorentina and admits he joined Chelsea to improve his credentials. Alonso has scored 15 goals in 89 appearances for the club and has grown to be an integral part of the team. Now, having lifted the Premier League title in 2017, the 27-year-old is striving to be the best player in his position.

“That’s why I came to Chelsea,” he told Soccer Saturday. “When you come to one of the top teams in the world with some great players, you can fight for that spot and that’s what I try to do. I want to keep improving and to work hard to be one of the best. I want to score more goals, I want to give more assists, I want to do more tackles. Everything I can do to help this team is good for the team and good for myself.”

Alonso is enjoying playing under new coach Maurizio Sarri, content at Stamford Bridge and believes if the Blues can maintain their early form, they won their opening five matches before Sunday’s draw with West Ham, they will have a big chance of lifting silverware come May.
