“Is Sonko’s “orthodox” style the solution to Cartels?”

Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has been raiding his Government’s institutions and facilities unexpectedly to oversee how they operate.

His impromptu visits have lately been seen affecting Pumwani Maternity Hospital.

Sonko has made impromptu visits to the facility twice with the top management getting victims every time he appears.

A few months ago Sonko raided Pumwani Hospital suspending the top management after finding out that their was no enough drugs at the facility and that patients were being directed to buy them elsewhere.

Sonko was claiming there was a cartel within the hospital who was liaising with the management to sell drugs and other basics to patients.

On Monday, he made another impromptu visit to the facility where he found out that 12 bodies of infants had been wrapped in plastic bags and hidden in carton boxes put in one of the rooms.

As per his norm, Sonko went ahead to suspend the top management of the facility, including the medics who were on duty that day.

However, his move was not welcomed by many, with other medics at Pumwani threatening to strike if their suspended colleagues will not be brought back on board.

Many termed Sonko’s move to ambush the facility on a motorbike as a Public Relations stunt, a claim that Sonko denied on Wednesday during a live TV interview.

After it emerged that Pumwani Hospital didn’t have a morgue, Sonko on Wednesday took an initiative of donating coolers to the facility for a temporary  morgue, a move that received reactions from Kenyans on Twitter.

However, Sonko maintains that this is his style of leadership and no one has the right to stop him since he is not competing with anyone for Nairobi.

He reiterates that Cartels are his target and he is going to ruthlessly deal with them during his reign to restore Nairobi back to its glory.
