Ogande Girls High School is located in West Kagan Location, Rangwe Constituency in Homa Bay County. It is a girls’ day and boarding secondary school founded in 1964.
Ogande is famed for its strong Christian values, which began under famous principal madam Rosemary Odette. Girls were also served ‘special meals’ and in the 1980s, fried eggs, veges, fruits and quarter loaves were common breakfast offerings.
Notable alumni include the late Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, who was murdered and dumped in Kodera Forest recently. She joined Form One in 2008 but never finished due to lack of fees in 2009.
She later joined Magare Secondary School in Homa Bay where she sat her KCSE in 2011.
Others guided by the motto ‘In faith go forth’ are Ida Betty Odinga, wife to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who joined Ogande Girls from Migori DEB (District Education Board), where her parents had bought land and settled.
Ida sat for her O-levels exams there before joining the Highland School (now Moi Girls High School) in Eldoret for her A-levels.
Other notable alumni of the school now under Principal Jenipher Otolo, and who wore white blouses and brown skirts include Eunice Akoth; fast-rising high fashion designer Aulgah Ojijo Nato of Nato Fashion House; and managing partner at Eunice Philip and Associates, a Nairobi based accounting and auditing advisory services firm.
Akoth, a former chair of the Christian Union has risen to senior pastor at the Fountain of Life Worship Church in Nairobi.
