Reprieve for Uhuru as ODM Announce They Will Support Fuel Tax

President Uhuru Kenyatta can now breath a sigh of relieve after the National Super Alliance (NASA) announced that they will support the proposed changes to the Finance Bill 2018 when it is tabled in the floor of the house for review.

Earlier on, it had been disclosed that MPs were planning to shoot down the controversial bill but ODM MPs met at Orange house on Tuesday morning and agreed to support the changes proposed by Uhuru.

While addressing the Press after the meeting at Orange House, Suna East MP and Minority Whip in Parliament Junet Mohammed said that they decided to support the President’s proposals because they recognize the state in which the country is in now.

“NASA recognizes the situation the country is in- this in regard to meeting its development goals through the budget We allso recognise the suffering Kenyans are going through- Rising cost of living that has been worsened by taxation measures”

President Kenyatta announced on Friday that he had proposed to cut the VAT on petroleum products by 50%, from 16% to 8%.

Should Parliament accept this proposal, the price of super petrol will drop from KSh 127 to about KSh 118, and the price of diesel will drop from KSh 115 to about KSh 107.
