What you need to know about the ongoing polio vaccination

 

Polio (also known as poliomyelitis) is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus that attacks the nervous system. Infection by the virus has the danger of causing paralysis.

The Polio Vaccination Campaign is taking place in 12 high-risk counties – Nairobi, Kajiado, Kitui, Machakos, Meru, isiolo, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera. 15th – 19th of September 2018

The polio campaign is part of the implementation of the directive to accelerate immunisation coverage for all the routine antigens in Kenya.

The vaccine given is Bivalent OPV (Against Polio type 1 & 3) . The previous one was Monovalent OPV (Against Polio 2)

The government together with WHO and UNICEF are working in unison towards the implementation of this campaign.
