Police have cautioned the public on the rise of fraudsters conning online shoppers.

The fraudsters have hijacked the #ikokaziKE hashtag on Twitter where they are duping job seekers.

The hashtag, which was created by Iko Kazi Kenya website, aims to connect employers and job seekers. “Last week, a tweep informed us of fraudsters who have hijacked the #ikokaziKE hashtag,” police tweeted on Monday.

“Beware of such online fraudsters too.”

Online shoppers have been urged to exercise due diligence to avoid falling prey to fraudulent social media sites.

“Report online fraudsters to the DCI Cybercrime Unit or National Computer Incidents Response Team Telephone hot-lines: +254-703-042700, +254-730-172700 and email incidents@ke-cirt.go.ke,” the police said.

Authorities have also been battling with sim swap fraudsters who access Personal Identifiable Information and steal from people’s accounts.
