CJ David Maraga and Interior CS Fred Matiangi today launched the construction of High Security Kahawa Court at the Kamiti Maximum Security Prison in Kiambu County.
According to the Chief justice, the main purpose for the setup of the court is, to hear cases of transnational crimes and others, and it will also assist in hearing criminal cases from around the Central Region.
Maraga says upon completion it will go a long way to help clearing backlog of cases, especially in Madaraka and Kiambu Law Courts.
The projectis hugely supported by the United Nations office on drugs and crime and is expected to be up and running in the next one year.
This is part of the judiciary’s reform plan to ensure that justice in sped up.
Matiang’i added that they will also move to other parts of the country and identify places to put up the same kind of facility and address security at the same time.
