Otiende Amollo claims Uhuru’s changes in Police Service are unconstitutional

Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has said that changes made by President Uhuru Kenyatta to the National Police Service are unconstitutional.
The vocal legislator said that the changes had overlooked the constitutional requirements which include going through parliament for approval.

“I have seen media reports of the adjustments made to the Police Service by the President. It appears to me, on the face of it, that the same are unconstitutional, however well meaning, in view of A. 242 & 245(3) Of Constitution, and w/o Parliament input A.94(5),” read Otiende Amollo’s tweet.

His words came after Kenyatta made several changes to the National Police Service which included, merging the Kenya Police with the Administration Police to form the General Duty Police, Changing Police uniforms as well as restructuring administrative duties for the police service.
