Why Sarri is amassed with Kante

Sarri surprised by Kante’s technical quality after enjoying new midfield role

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has heaped praise upon midfielder N’Golo Kante, admitting he is surprised by the player’s technical quality on the ball.

Since moving to England, Kante has established himself as one of the most talented defensive midfielders in world football, winning two Premier League titles – one with Leicester City and the other with Chelsea – with his ability a key element to both sides’ respective successes.

He has also proven his quality on the international stage. This summer, Kante was part of the France side that romped home to victory at the World Cup in Russia, earning him yet another high-profile trophy since he established himself to a wider audience.

Yet, under new manager Sarri, Kante has been deployed in a more advanced role which has seen him spending more time in the opponent’s box than within his own.

In fact, it took just 34 minutes for Kante to once again produce the goods as he scored in the opening match of the Premier League campaign against Huddersfield Town in a 3-0 victory which got both the Frenchman and Sarri off to a perfect start.

Speaking to reporters, Sarri admitted his shock at the technical aspect of Kante’s game, saying: “He is a great midfielder who is capable of playing in every position across the midfield.

The official Chelsea Twitter account also mentioned that Sarri admitted he “was surprised about Kante’s technical qualities.”

Chelsea’s next Premier League fixture is at home to Cardiff City following the international break, with the Blues looking to continue their perfect start to the season.
