This is Waiguru’s plan after all

The debate about Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru as running mate for Deputy President William Ruto in 2022 is gaining momentum.

Speaking in Maralal on Friday, Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri said the time is right for a female Deputy President in Kenya.

“As we talk now about the constitution and a third gender rule, I am convinced and I know Kenyans are as well, given an opportunity to serve the nation, Anne Mumbi Waiguru could serve very well as number two,” Ndambiri said.

According to him, his boss Waiguru has demonstrated that she can serve the country well as Deputy President.

He cited her leadership at the council of governors where she is currently the vice chairperson.

Ndambiri further urged Kenyans to support Waiguru if she is picked to be Ruto’s running mate.

His sentiments come days after a fiery interview on the JKL show where the governor distanced herself from talks about 2022.

When asked whether she would run for a higher position in 2022, Waiguru said she would rather focus on her current position as Kirinyaga Governor.

The governor further addressed the photo of her and the Deputy President barely a day after the release of the IPSOS poll ranking the two as the most corrupt in the country saying  “it was a mere coincidence.”

“We have a good professional and cordial relationship,” she told Citizen TV‘s Jeff Koinange adding that: “He is my party boss and the deputy party leader… I am obligated to work with him and …have a good relationship with him.”
