William Osoro, a senior official in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution has been charged with theft of Ksh7.9m fuel lubricants.

A statement from DPP Noordin Haji said the Head of the Administration Division was found culpable for misappropriation of public funds through mismanagement of fuel consumption.
“The suspect will be charged with abuse of office and stealing by a person employed in public service,” Haji said in a statement released on Friday.
Osoro appeared in court and was released on Ksh.600,000 bail.
Osoro has been released on Sh1.5 million bond or alternative Sh600,000 cash bail. Milimani Anti-corruption CM Lawrence Mugambi ordered the accused to deposit passport in court & denied him access to ODPP offices unless with authorization from the DPP.

According to the DPP, he received an internal audit report in April last year concerning alleged corruption in the Transport Division of his office.
A letter from the Kenya National Audit Office was also sent him in February 2018 reiterating the claim. He forwarded the report to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) which launched investigations into the damning allegations against William Osoro.

“After independent thorough review of the evidence submitted, I find there is sufficient evidence to warrant immediate prosecution of the said officer,” the statement from Haji reads in part.
