Ed Woodward Tells Friends About his Decision over Mourinho

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has reportedly informed friends that Jose Mourinho’s position at Manchester United is not currently at threat.

Mourinho is seemingly under intense pressure at Old Trafford after back-to-back defeats to Brighton and Tottenham in United’s opening three Premier League matches of the 2018/19 campaign.

To add to this, the Portuguese did not get the top-class central defender he wished for in the summer transfer window, with the Red Devils unwilling to pay over the odds for Harry Maguire or Toby Alderweireld.

Some reports suggest that Mourinho has been at war with Woodward over a lack of ambition in the transfer market but, according to The Guardian, this could not be further from the truth.

It’s claimed that their relationship is ‘stronger than ever’ and close friends of Woodward are adamant that Mourinho’s job does not depend on United getting a result at Burnley this weekend.

Mourinho has even been signing off texts to Woodward with a message for his young children: ‘kisses to the twins’.

Woodward has been at United’s Carrington training ground more than ever in recent weeks but it’s believed this has nothing to do with Mourinho’s future.

United legend Ryan Giggs offered his support to Mouriinho following the side’s 3-0 defeat at home to Spurs.

‘Manchester United have got a fantastic manager already there,’ Giggs said. ‘The club are going through a tough time but you’ve got to come through those tough times.

I don’t see where Manchester United go after Jose Mourinho. I think they’ve got the right man and they should stick with him. It is always difficult for a manager after a result like that [against Spurs]. I was at the game and I understand Jose’s frustration because on another day United win that game.
