Controversial activist Boniface Mwangi has come out and disagreed with Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ezekiel Mutua’s remarks on the after ‘socks’ condom advert. Mwangi told Mutua that his father should have used a condom to save the youth from his ignorance.
‘If your dad had used a condom, our youth would have being spared of your ignorant moral crusade.’ Mwangi posted on his Twitter handle.
Mr Mutua on Monday 27 August said that the advert was immoral and had not been submitted for examination at the KFCB and has decided to take legal action against the management.
Finland had 4.5 million people in 1963, Kenya had 8 million people. Today Finland has 4.5million people and Kenya has over 50 million.A condom is a contraceptive and disease preventer. If your dad had used a condom, our youth would have being spared of your ignorant moral crusade. https://t.co/iUXmdApL57

“Following complaints and concerns raised by a cross section of Kenyans regarding the “socks” condom advert airing in most Tv stations during prime time, the Board today launched investigations on the matter and has established that the advert was not submitted for examination and classification in line with the requirements of the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222. The airing of the advert is therefore in contravention of the law and the producers, distributors and broadcasters will be held liable for the breach. The Board has given instructions to its lawyers to proceed and prosecute the concerned institutions for the breach. KFCB will issue a comprehensive statement on the matter tomorrow,” said the KFCB CEO.

KFCB supports sex education and the campaign for safe sex, but condom adverts, just like all other adverts must be submitted to the Board for examination and classification in line with the law. Condoms must not give misleading information or target the wrong audiences

However, Boniface, on Tuesday morning 28 August, took to his Twitter handle and asked the KFCB boss to stay out of people’s bedroom issues. “Mutua has no business in people’s bedroom and if he did, he should be promoting safe sex. His moral crusade is stupid. Kenya lacks values not morals,” he said.

He later went ahead and posted pictures of Maasai youth learning to use condoms citing that they are very important. “My award winning photography series of young Maasai’s learning how to use condoms. Condoms are important @EzekielMutua! This is my last response to your very ignorant campaign against condom adverts,” added Mwangi.
