Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi has sent stern warning to medical officers in charge of drugs distribution and usage that they will regret the punitive measures taken against them if they flout the rules and regulations.
Speaking at the Busia County and Referral Hospital where he supervised the offloading of drugs from Kenya Medical Supplies agencies, Mulomi who is also the acting Health Executive said the officers in charge will carry their own crosses once found culpable.
‘’ I will come for officers responsible of the drugs right from hospital to the medical stores at Matayos. The drugs which will last up to December should be used for intended purpose. Any misuse will not be tolerated,’’ he said.
Lorries loaded with medical supplies arrived on Monday with others heading to the buffer stores at Matayos while other were destined for various sub counties across the county.
The DG said Kemsa is supplying drugs worth Sh57m, with drugs worth Sh30m supplied earlier, adding that all facilities will have received the supplies in the next two or three days.
He said the department was working on mechanisms to address congestion challenges at drugs stores and to ensure that coolers were availed to keep low temperature drugs, adding that simple drugs were availed at all hospitals at all times.
Mulomi said the County Government has finalized plans to employ 63 more health officers to ease congestion at the health institutions across the county.
He revealed that the department is set to receive about Sh300 million from the share of Sh553m the County Government received as conditional grant from the World Bank through the Kenya Devolution Support programme.
‘’ The funds will be used improve facilities at the Busia County Referral hospital including pre-and post-natal clinics, the Intensive Care, High Dependency, dental Units and facilities at all sub county hospitals.
