The ODM party has announced that it is determined to discipline MPs who have gone against the party’s principles to campaign for Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the 2022 general elections.

Party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna on Thursday said rebel party leaders will not be entertained and those intending to “follow that route” should be prepared for a rude shocker.

He said MPs who have been served with party summon letters should prepare for by-elections within two years so that their constituents get the opportunity to demonstrate whether they still have confidence in them or not.

“We mean everything that we say,” Sifuna said during the interview with Milele FM.

“We have already written to these leaders and we expect them to face the party’s disciplinary committee. Only one of those summoned before the committee has responded. Give us one year and a half and we will hold by-elections because the process takes time.”

ODM wrote letters to MPs deemed rebel over their open support for Ruto telling them to explain why they chose to go against the party’s principles by campaigning for a candidate from another party ahead of the 2022 general polls.

The MPs, Aisha (Malindi) and her Msambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori were given seven days to respond to the allegations before disciplinary action is taken against them.

Others in the list include Badi Twalib (Jomvu), Kinango’s Benjamin Tayari, and Kilifi North’s MP Owen Baya.
