Germany head coach Joachim Low and general manager Oliver Bierhoff have passed a vote of confidence from the German Football League (DFL) at a summit in Frankfurt on Tuesday.
Representatives of the DFL and Bundesliga clubs were in attendance as Low and Bierhoff discussed the future of the nation’s football.
DFL president Reinhard Rauball and German football federation (DFB) president Reinhard Grindel said in a joint statement the summit had been a success.
“All participants of the summit have passed a vote of confidence [in Low and Bierhoff],” Rauball said, and Grindel added that “DFB and Bundesliga are pulling together.”
According to Grindel, Low, who did not comment on the summit, expressed his wish for specialists on certain positions on the pitch, and Rauball said that “we have a reason to be worried” looking at those players currently coming through the ranks of the league’s youth academies.
In an official DFL press release, it was confirmed that “the work in the Bundesliga academies and the FA’s coach training” was addressed during the meeting.
The German football summit was the start of a busy week for Joachim Low and Oliver Bierhoff amid frictions within the FA in the aftermath of the 2018 World Cup.
On Friday, Low and Bierhoff will present their analysis of the World Cup exit and what must change at a meeting with the DFB presidency.
Low will make his first public appearance since the tournament next Wednesday when announcing the squad for the Nations League meeting with France in early September.
Elsewhere, Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp hit out at former Germany captain Philipp Lahm, who criticised Low on social media last month.
“How can I put it nicely? Philipp was a really good player. If you have something to say, as one of the nation’s record internationals, just go there or pick up the phone and say it,” Klopp told Sport1. “Don’t talk about the national team, you’ve played for recently, as if you’ve never been there. I don’t get it.”
Last week, Philipp Lahm was appointed as the head of the 2024 European championships organising committee should the country win the bid to host the tournament.
