Bayern Munich  have confirmed Jerome Boateng has a “50-50” chance of joining Paris Saint-Germain after telling them he wants out. The Germany defender, 29, turned down a move to Manchester United this month but is still keen on leaving Munich.

Bayern president Uli Hoeness said : “The chances of a transfer are 50-50. Jerome told [Bayern CEO] Karl-Heinz Rummenigge that he wants to move. If the player wants to leave and we have alternatives, then you have to deal with them.”

Brazilian defenders Thiago Silva and Marquinhos started PSG’s 3-1 win over Guingamp on Saturday.

The French club’s signing of young highly-rated centre-back Thilo Kerer from Schalke was believed to have put an end to any interest in Boateng but Hoeness thinks otherwise.

He added: “I think it’s Paris [Saint-Germain that are interested]. Loaning is only possible if there is an offer to buy next year.

“We’re happy if he stays, he’s a fantastic player.”

Boateng was on United’s radar this summer but their pursuit of Leicester defender Harry Maguire deterred the Bayern star.

Sources understands executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward offered only a loan to take the former Manchester City star to Old Trafford.

Boateng felt that the failure to offer a permanent deal – which would have cost United around £27million – showed they were not serious in their efforts to sign him.

While the Premier League transfer window has shut, the German and French windows are open until 11.59pm on August 31.

Meanwhile, Bayern team-mate Robert Lewandowski is also considering his future elsewhere, with Chelsea and Real Madrid possibilities.

But Hoeness refused to even think about selling the Poland striker, saying: “Robert Lewandowski’s agent asked for an appointment with me, I told him that I have a very busy schedule but I can meet him on 2 September.”
