The shot-shopper appears to hold no ill feelings towards the Juventus superstar. Ronaldo made his competitive debut for Juve in their 3-2 win over Chievo, although he failed to get on the scoresheet.

The £105m arrival from Real Madrid looked lively and clashed with goalkeeper Sorrentino midway through the match.

The coming together left Sorrentino with a broken nose, whiplash and a bruised shoulder. But the 39-year-old refused to blame Ronaldo for his injuries after hearing from the Portuguese after the game.

“I received a message of closeness and prompt recovery from Cristiano Ronaldo. Thank you legend!” he tweeted on Sunday night. It is not known if Sorrentino will make Chievo’s next game – a trip to Fiorentina in August.

The veteran goalkeeper returned for his second spell at Chievo in 2016 after a three-year stint at Palermo.

Earlier on Sunday he had tweeted a picture of himself in a neck brace, with the message: “THANKS for your messages of closeness, affection and esteem. We are a fantastic group and yesterday we touched the company: while CR7 took me full!”

As for Ronaldo, the Portugal international will hope to bag his first goal on his Allianz Stadium debut next Saturday when Juve host Lazio.

Ronaldo managed nine shots in the 3-2 win over Chievo, which saw Sami Khedira, Federico Bernardeschi and a Mattia Bani own goal find the net for Juve.

Discussing Ronaldo’s debut after the game, Juve manager Max Allegri revealed he has been taken by how easily the player has slipped adapted to his new surroundings.

“Ronaldo held out well physically, has only been training with us for seven days and did really well. It’s a pity he wasn’t able to score a goal,” Allegri said.

“It depends on the characteristics of the players near him. Ronaldo had several shots on target today, Sorrentino made several saves, there were also some good movements that were not rewarded by the midfielders. Those are movements that must be read from the back with the ball provided in the right spot.

“I was most impressed that Ronaldo settled in to the team, he was very happy in the dressing room and had his chances.

“The main problem tonight was we let the concentration levels drop and we simply cannot afford to do that.”
