ACK Church fined for contempt of court in gay case

The Anglican Church of Kenya has been fined Ksh 200,000 for defying court orders.

The church has been accused of failing to reinstate the three priests, Archdeacon John Gachau, Reverend James Maigua and Rev Paul Warui  who had been suspended over homosexual claims.

While delivering the verdict at Nyeri Law Courts,Justice Nzioka Makau  directed the ACK Trustees to pay the fine within 48 hours.

In October last year the court ordered the church trustee to pay compensation fee of Ksh 6.8 million to the accused priests for defamation. The three further said their reputation and integrity were damaged, eroding their dignity among the congregation and the public.

Before suspension, the three clerics were serving at the Diocese of Mt Kenya West under Bishop Joseph Kagunda.
